Lorry crashes into bridge at Kearsney, near Dover, causing rail disruption

A railway line was blocked after a lorry crashed into a bridge and got stuck underneath.

It meant trains were not able to run between Kearsney and Dover.

However, the lorry has now been removed and services are set to return to normal.

The Southeastern app had said: “A lorry has struck a bridge at Kearsney.

“Police are on site and have reported damage to the bridge and the vehicle trapped underneath.

“Staff are on route to inspect the bridge.”

A Police spokesperson said:: “Kent Police was called at 5.46am to a report that a lorry had struck a railway bridge in Alkham Road, Kearsney.

“Officers attended the scene and closed the road pending an inspection by Network Rail engineers. No injuries were reported.”
