A flat where drink and drug users came “at all hours of the day and night” has been shut down by police.
Neighbours in Stembrook Court, Dover, also said their own properties were damaged by the home’s visitors, and complained of feeling unsafe and threatened.
Users of the flat were reportedly causing nuisance behaviour and damaging communal spaces.
A police spokesman explained: “As well as the property being in a poor state, concerns relating to drug dealing and violent behaviour had been highlighted to police by residents.
“Due to the activity in and around the property, multiple residents had been left feeling unsafe and threatened.
“Visitors to the property reportedly threatened those living nearby when challenged.
“Residents had also reported criminal damage caused to their own properties, as well as disturbances throughout the day and night.
“Police worked with the community to gather the evidence necessary to bring the closure order before the court, and the closure order is now in place.”
Under Section 80 of the Antisocial Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, the order prevents anyone other than emergency services or social services from visiting the property for three months.
If anyone does enter the flat, they risk a custodial sentence or an unlimited fine.
After receiving the court order, officers attended today to secure the property and prevent any further visitors to the address.
PC Michelle Sherwood added: “The closure of this property is a direct response to the serious concerns raised by residents.
“Extensive work by local officers in partnership with residents and Dover District Council has enabled Kent Police to tackle the issue head-on.
“By closing this property, we are sending a clear message that antisocial behaviour will not be tolerated.
“The actions taken alongside our partner agencies are about keeping communities safe and creating an environment where everyone can feel secure in their own home.”
