Main Road, outside Longfield Academy, closed by South East Water for repairs

Motorists say they have been stuck in traffic after a busy route was closed for urgent repairs.

South East Water shut the B260 Main Road, outside of Longfield Academy, without warning yesterday (June 14) after a leak was reported.

Its engineers have since repaired two water pipes. However, the carriageway is expected to remain closed until at least Wednesday (June 18).

Distribution manager for South East Water, Adam Newbury, said: “We are sorry to customers in the Longfield area who have been impacted by a road closure on Main Road.

“We closed the road yesterday in order to fix a leak on two pipes that had been reported.

“The repairs were successful, and the road is now being returned to a safe and drivable condition.

“We understand that road closures are frustrating and would like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding.”

Motorists reported lengthy queues on Hartley Bottom and Grange Road yesterday as they navigated the closure.

Concerns have also been raised by parents and councillors for nearby New Ash Green and Ash about how it will affect the school bus route.
